One thing you’ll immediately notice about this skin is the fact that it looks an awful lot like PAX Jax – there’s a couple of differences of course, but some people have gone so far as to unflatteringly refer to Angler Jax as “a poor mans PAX Jax.”
While there might be some truth in that, this skin is an excellent way to get that prestigious feel without having to break the bank.
First, let’s take a look at his splash art before delving into the in-game skin itself.
There’s clearly some mountains in the background, but other than that we can’t really discern much else due to the covering of fog.
This mantle of mist might look decent enough, but we’ve seen it so regularly in Riots splash arts that it’s hard not to feel as though this is done out of laziness – it’s much easier to obscure the background by slapping a blob of fog on it than it is to painstakingly detail trees and buildings. At least Angler Jax is well drawn – he’s portrayed leaning against a tree, hugging his fishing rod and breathing in the fresh air. Or is he?
The air doesn’t actually seem all that fresh. The colour palette consists of murky browns and greens, and the water looks like it might contain some mutated, eldritch horror, as opposed to the usual catch Angler Jax is used to.
In-game, Angler Jax is dressed in a sunny yellow robe, complimented with intriguing blue patterns.
To no one’s surprise, a fishing rod is his weapon of choice – complete with reel! Although, this rod does look a tad flimsy; then again, Headmistress Fiora slaps people to death with a ruler, so we won’t question it too far.
