How To Photos From Canon Powershot To Mac

When I attempted to download photos from my Canon Powershot digital camera, my MacBook Pro (6 mos. Old) re-loaded every picture in the library so I now have 2 copies of all 6500 pictures (for a total of 13,000) but none from the camera. It also added photos I have never seen plus some weird symbol-like graphics. May 12, 2015 Install the driver (if running a platform other than Windows XP) and the software applications bundled on the Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk. With a Macintosh, it is next necessary to set the ImageBrowser on automatic start. For further details, please see the Software Starter Guide. Plug the dedicated USB cable into the computer.

Hi! I'm totally new to a mac, also new to this forum. Happy to get to know you guys! :headphone
I've got a question: Later when I used my PC with WinXP, once I connected the camera to the PC it always transfered the images automatically (with Photo wizard). But now with my Mac when I connect them two, nothing happens. Mine is a Canon Powershot A80, its installation disks are all for PC so I don't know if it needs a special program to transfer images, or any other way? Please help! Thankyou!!!
